Programs

The Center on Health, Aging, and Disability is committed to serving both scientists and the community. To that end, the Center is dedicated to developing and implementing education and outreach programs and supporting research.

Educational Programs

The Center provides educational programs for its members, College of Applied Health Sciences and UIUC Faculty, and other scientists and professionals. Our annual research symposium on health, wellness, aging and disability presents innovative research ideas, and facilitates meaningful dialogue.

The Center also offers periodic workshops, such as the CHAD Lunch Seminar Series, on topics of interest to its members. In addition, members receive a monthly newsletter that includes funding opportunity announcements, relevant news, upcoming trainings and conferences, and educational articles.

As the Center grows we will also offer educational offerings to practitioners and the community at large.

Outreach

Our ultimate goal is to improve quality of life. The Center endeavors to translate our research into direct community outreach. In addition, we seek to help practitioners use our research to more effectively serve their constituents.

The following are examples of our outreach efforts:

Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES). The mission of DRES is to ensure that qualified individuals with disabilities are afforded an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from the curricular, co-curricular and vocational opportunities available at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign through the collaborative promotion, provision and/or pursuit of innovative accommodative and educational services, and interdisciplinary disability research.

International Disability Sport Outreach Program. This program supports social change in countries where the opportunities for persons with disabilities have not previously existed.
