Message from the Director
The Center on Health, Aging and Disability (CHAD) is housed in the College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. We provide support services for leadership in national and international interdisciplinary research, education, and outreach that promotes health and wellness across the lifespan; healthy aging; healthy communities; and optimal participation of individuals with disabilities.
Our staff includes, Director (Jeff Woods, PhD), Associate Director (Jacob Sosnoff, PhD), Biostatistician (Sa Shen, PhD), Proposal Development and Outreach Specialist (Wendy Bartlo, PhD) and Administrative Aide (Penny Nigh). Undergraduate student interns also assist with our mission.
Our staff is available to facilitate AHS faculty and student research by helping to:
- improve grantsmanship
- assist with proposal planning, development, and submission
- provide quantitative biostatistical support
- provide qualitative research support
- identify research partners and funding opportunities
- formulate research ideas
- review grant proposals
We facilitate AHS research with several ongoing programs. For instance, we maintain an annual CHAD Pilot Research Grant Program that provides financial support for 18 month projects with the goal of forming productive research teams and gathering pilot data for larger grant submissions. Additionally, CHAD Travel Grant Program provides annual support for participation at disciplinary research meetings. In the Khan Annex, we also offer a videoconferencing facility, meeting space, and high quality poster printing services. We support and plan regular research and community engagement symposiums and meetings, including a monthly Research and Faculty Development Academy which informs faculty and students of campus resources, provides best practices in proposal development, and mentors faculty on various career issues. We also perform community outreach activities relative to health, aging and disability for the mutual benefit of our community and our faculty and students.
We encourage you take advantage of the services we provide to further your research and outreach agendas. Please feel free to contact us for your needs.
Jeff Woods, Ph.D.
